June 30th: All I Wanna Do Is Run! June 30, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 8:48 am

Good Morning Everyone,
I am actually laying in bed next to my pup right now. I love him so much 🙂 Anyways….just as the title says, All I Wanna Do Is Run! I haven’t ran in about a week, (which wasn’t a good run I might add); but now I getting really antsty and the craving of running is back! I need it…I need to run! Alright so there is just one major obstacle with this picture though…I just finished my tattoo last night on the right ankle and it hurts like a B#*ch! It burns so bad and the other one is still healing. So what does this mean for Krista? NO RUNNING unless she wants to be in major pain!!!!!

On a brighter note…I have been Gluten-Free again for 4 days. I am starting to feel a lot better. Last Sunday I felt like throwing up at work, but by today I’m feeling about 85% better and that feeling is gone. I did some research and found out that Gluten Intolerance can come on at any time in someone’s life. The fact that I removed it from my diet completely may have triggered the Gluten Intolerance I am dealing with now. It kinda sucks, because I can’t go back to eating the way the rest of the world eats. On the other hand, I am filling my body with amazing whole food, that are color/dye free and mostly organic as well as fresh. Can’t beat being healthy and happy!

So anyways, I will keep you posted on my running craving and if I cave in and just deal with the pain. I have a feeling that might happen but we’ll see 🙂

In life you will always have that one thing you crave. For some…it becomes an addiction and for others they can control it. Make sure that your addiction is a healthy one that you can control. If you find yourself under the influence of your craving, then you are definitely addicted. For me…I am addicted to fried chicken, and running. One not so healthy and the other is amazing! Just make sure to always balance yourself out and make sure to always be healthy with your addictions.

June 28th- Better Days Are A Comin! June 28, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 11:24 am

Well Hello There and Good Morning/Afternoon To All,

This last week has been a rough one. With all that gluten that I was eating and getting my tattoo’s done and then colored, I have not been able to run. When I do run or try to run it is not a very good attempt. So I am going to rest this week…enjoy my family on their last week here, as well as let my body get back to running status, then start back up next week. I would rather heal and spend time with my family then to push myself into something when I don’t feel good.

So today I had my Acupuncture appointment, which felt AMAZING and was much needed! The plan for today is to hit up the free museums at Balboa Park with my Mom and my beautiful nieces! Then after my oldest niece and I are going to Chipotle and grab some food for dinner, then it is off to the ZOO. They started night time zoo so we will stay till close! Super excited to see all the new shows!

Anyways, one last note…when you stray off the beaten path, there is always a GPS or someone nice that will steer you in the right direction. Much like me and eating gluten for a week, I paid the price, but that doesn’t mean that you have to keep doing the same things as you did before. all you need it the one step in the right direction in order to get back on track. You can do it!

(Photos of the color on my wings will be up soon)

June 26th: Say NO To Gluten & Alcohol! June 26, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 9:11 am

Good Morning Adventurers!
Ok so I have to admit my faults for this week. I have been kinda bad with my diet. What I mean by diet is, not eating stuff with Gluten in it. It started when I went to Sprouts and bought the wrong kind of pizza dough. I thought I picked up the Gluten-Free pizza dough but I looked a couple of days ago and discovered why I have been feeling so junky lately. Yeah it was the wrong one! So as a result of this, I had/have 5 pre-made pizza crusts to eat, and I figured I would just eat those and then go back to eating food w/out Gluten. Well…it didn’t stop there, I also had some home-made snickerdoodles that my Mom and nieces made, and part of a donut yesterday. Then Autumn and I went out for a little relaxing time. I had 1 drink and some water. I woke up this morning and feel like a truck hit me and then backed up and rolled over me again.

This morning I tried to wake up to run. Yeah that didn’t work at all! It is the first time since I went gluten-free that I have felt like this. Yesterday during the day I also took a nap, which I haven’t done since I went gluten-free. I can’t keep doing this! I feel horrible! I couldn’t run this morning bc I felt like throwing up. My stomach hurt and felt extended, my legs and back hurt, and I just wasn’t feelin it. I am so tired too! So I am starting back on my healthy lifestyle tomorrow. I can’t wait to start feeling better!

I am also excited to say that I am getting my wings finished today! Super excited for the pain…oh and the color that is being added. I was thinking white and blue high lights, and maybe some gold. I haven’t decided tho. What do you think?

Trust yourself and your body. You should know who you are and what you want to do. If you don’t know who you are yet…go out and find yourself. Everyone deserves to be happy, but you need to love yourself before you can truly be happy. Ask yourself in the mirror while looking at yourself eye to eye, “Do I actually love who I am?” If the answer is No, then you know what you have to work on. So go on your way now and find out who you truly are!

June 23rd: I Am A REBEL With A Cause June 23, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 11:04 pm

Rest In Peace Rebel

Good evening Adventure Readers,

Today was a really rough day for my family and me. The photo that is above is a photo my mom took of our family/brother’s dog Rebel. Rebel was a rescue that my brother received as gift when he was in 5th grade. It just so happens that he actually had the same name as my brother also. Anyways today we had to send him on his journey to Heaven after living an amazing 15 years of life at my Mother’s house. It is always hard when you loose a family member, and yes that is exactly what he is to us. Well look at our pets part of our family and even as close to saying they are our kids. Rebel was such a great pup and I will miss him.

So this run tonight Reb-e Beb-e is for you. I know you are looking down on me with all the other pets that have journeyed to heaven before you. So please say hi to Mister Bear, Heidi, Shariden, Maxi, and Rommel. Well miss them all so much and will forever remember your amazing heart and your loud cocker spaniel bark.

I am going to run tonight in the memory of Rebel. Running is a way that I can contribute to the community because I am not allowed to give blood or donate my organs when the time is needed. I figured that this is my only way to give a piece of myself and be an active person in my community. I used to feel so helpless not being able to give blood because of my medical condition, that I actually used to cry about it. I would love to share the gift of life by giving blood, but I know that I can’t, so entering races and running for a cause is the only way I know how. I feel great knowing there is a way for me to help out.

This brings me to my last thought. What are you doing to give back to someone in need? When you think you have it bad or something in your life is not going the way that you want it, please remember there is someone out there that is in a worse situation that you are. It could be someone so close such as your neighbor or someone you don’t know at all. Think twice about giving someone a smile, bc it may be the only smile they have had all day or even all week. So I ask you again…what are you doing to give back to someone else in need?

I AM a REBEL with a CAUSE!

June 21: Hell-o Hot Summer Day! June 21, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 5:53 pm

Well good after afternoon Adventure Readers,
Alright so this morning was a little weird for me. I woke up at 6 per my alarm! Gggrrrr! Anyways last night was sleep over night and I had my niece over. I love having my nieces out here for the summer. Well anyways, she wanted to go for a run with me so we planned on going this morning. The plan was to run for as long as she could run for and then she would jump on my bike and I would run the rest of my miles. Ha! Yeah that didn’t happen! We did our stretches and ate out breakfast…I also helped show her how to breath and what belly breathing is. So we started off and did a good mile. Then I took my cruiser down and did a test GREENSuperFoodride to see if she could actually ride a bike or rather a bike like mine. I just didn’t want her to CRASH! I have a really $$$$$ beach cruiser and didn’t want it to get hurt you know…well…she almost crashed and that was the end of that! We went back home and chilled until about 11am and I took her back to Grandma’s house. It was fun over all 🙂

Yesterday I went to Whole Foods after Sea World. I swear! I can’t get out of that place with out staying there for about 2GREENSuperFood Facts hours! It has so much stuff that I can’t handle the amount of Gluten-Free Foods they have. Well I left with some new Energy Greens and 4lbs of different kinds of rice. I like talking myself out of buying things I guess. At one point had some brownies and some ginger snaps…and some chocolate and and and…lol! I was looking in the Nutrition section and asked a nice guy that worked there about this stuff my acupuncturist was talking about called Maca, he then recommended GREENSuperFood. So I am going to try it instead of the Orac-Energy that I have been taking. The new greens look like ground up grass but it is berry flavor and taste pretty good. I wanted some kind of powder that I didn’t have to mix with orange juice bc of the added cals I didn’t need. So we’ll see how these work out for me. Oh these greens have the maca that she was talking about too! Best of both worlds!

Now I am about to hit the pavement again with my new running buddy that I met in my same neighborhood. He has a pup and loves her just as much as I love my Ace. So tonight we are going to see if the pups get along. Wish me luck!

P.S. Just got home from an amazing run with my new running buddy and his pup. It was a really nice 5 mile run that we did around the town. Pups were ok with each other after we started running. It took them a little while to figure things out but for the most part and  they didn’t even know they were running next to each other. The more running we do together the better the pups will get. It is nice to be able to run with someone that can run longer then 2 miles. Can’t wait to see were this goes and how the pups get along! Yay for a new running buddy and new play friend for Ace!

These are some Races I am considering on doing in the near future. Check them out and see if there is one that you would want to do with me. It would be great to do them together:

June 20th: Turtle Reef Here I Come! June 20, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 6:40 am

Good Early Early Morning Adventure Readers!

Wow it is early I know but I am awake and ready to start my short run and then build up to a 10 by the end of the week. I can’t believe I woke up at 4am this morning. If you are a woman you will understand this, but I am sorry for the men that read this and probably won’t understand this next statement. I did NOT get a good sleep and woke up at 4am because I was having excruciating pain in my “girly area”…yeah you get the point. Anyways, I don’t take that pain very well and can’t sleep when it is that time. Oh gross! I hate taking about this crap but that is part of why I am awake. I also had to take one of my meds that I can’t take 2 hours before or after eating, so my alarm wakes me at 4am anyways.

So here I am watching some MTV and getting ready to head out for a short 4miler, then every other day I will add 2-3 more miles. I have been having some really great runs even know I Sprouts Amazing Foodhave still some pain in my left hip. Not sure what happen to make it hurt for so long but I am not going to let it take me away from my training. I love it! I love running and nothing will stop me! My goal next week is to start out with a 6mile run as my short run and do the every other day thing again.

As for the the training and weight watching…it is actually going really great! I did derail a this weekend. I went to SPROUTS on Saturday and found that they have an AMAZING selection of GLUTEN-FREE Food! It was like a dream come true! I couldn’t actually believe that amount of food they had for me! So I did get some chicken strips, tomatoes, pizza crust, and  pepperoni. So yes I had to try them all but just not over indulge…of it was delish and home-made! The pizza came out so so good! Chicken finger’s were ok but I probably wont do those again. I have made better…lol!

Plans for today:

  • Stop blogging
  • Finish Stretching
  • Get out and run
  • Sea World to check out the new Turtle Reef (yay! Super duper excited about that!)
  • If time go to SDSU to exchange Father’s Day gift
  • Bank
  • Relax

Father's Day 2011 @ BJ's Pizza & Brew

It is really strange how I have been actually enjoying running and have actually started to craving it. I really wanted to run yesterday which I might add was FATHER’S DAY! I had all intentions to run. I set my alarm, woke up, ate some food and then went back to bed…what the hell is that all about!? So I was going to try to go last night, but yeah…I had to much Gluten-Free Pizza from BJ’s Pizza and Brew. Yes they have a great Gluten-Free Pizza and BROCCOLI CHEDDAR SOUP! Yummy! It was AMazInG! I just want to say to my Father…you are my rock, you are my hero, and the best man in my life. The biggest thing I have learned from you is: to love. You have showed me that love comes in many ways and no matter how hard love can be some times, it is always worth being in love and no what love it all about. I know for a fact that I wouldn’t be the woman I am if I didn’t have an amazing Father like you. I love you Dad with all my heart and you are THE BEST FATHER in the World!

No matter how many times you want to give up, there is someone that already beat you to the punch. Get up, be active and want to live. Fate is the one that drives you and all you can do it ride it out until the bumps smooth over. I have learned that a spider spins a web, but that web will get old and break away…so always stay true to yourself and the ones around you and there won’t be a web to be stuck in.

June 16th: No Photos! June 16, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 10:50 pm

Hey there Adventure Readers!

I am getting a little frustrated that I can’t put up pictures on my Blog! That is why I haven’t posted any since my Half Marathon. For some reason it only lets me post one and not another one! I don’t know what is going on…I am going to try to go to Starbucks or something and see if a stronger internet connection will help. I can only hope!
Alright so I have some updates on turning some of my “leaves”. The new diet and eating healthy paired with running and working out is going great! It is taking some more time cooking more often and actually portioning things out, but it will be worth it in the end. I really want to get down to a healthier weight before I get to run my Full Marathon. I am not going to weigh myself until Monday. I started on a Monday, so I will use that as my base day to weigh myself. I may not do it every week because I don’t feel it is healthy to judge yourself every week on the amount of weight you lose. I am excited to give you updates on this though.
Speaking about my Full Marathon…I am excited to announce that my Half-Sister’s…Half-Sister is coming out to run the Full Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon with me! Super excited about her coming out. We have never met but we seem to have a lot in common and both are running our own running adventures. It is a little weird we both started in different places in life and are going to end at the same race. How great is that?!
In the past week I have been able to stay on track with running. Last night I had a great run with the Pup. Started off doing a 4miler with Ace around the town. He stayed at my house last night while I was at work. He usually goes to my Mom’s, his Grammy’s House. So, needless to say, he was super duper hyper and off the wall. I planned all along to take him on a run when I got home. Boy oh boy, he loved it! I didn’t want to kill him out there so we just did a short 4miler and then I put him in the house and I went back out for another 2 miles. I felt great and ran great. Ace helps me run a little faster I think. He has more legs so he does go faster then me, which in turn makes me try to run a little faster. It doesn’t show up on my GPS that we run faster bc someone has to do one of the few…pee, #2, sniff, paw check, chase a cat here and there…you know…all the doggy stuff. But I love it and love running with him!
Anyways, I have learned a few things this week as I move on and grow up. One thing I have always known but was again reminded about was the simple word of CHANGE. Change is something that most everyone can do. Some do it faster, some do it slower and some just don’t do it at all. Either way, when someone says they have changed, you can only completely agree with them by seeing and watching the actions they do. If they are the different than the past, than they have changed…if they are still doing the same things as they did in the past, then change has not actually been enacted. For me, it takes the watching of the actions to see if they have truly changed. I am not one to judge because I am perfect, but lying is worse then staying you have changed and not being honest about it to the ones around you or even to yourself. Change is good, but it doesn’t always leave you in the position you thought it would. What is more important is as long as you are honest with yourself, that is the only change that matters.

June 13th: Turning A New Leaf & Speading My Wings June 13, 2011

Filed under: Daily Update — Krista Clarke @ 2:14 pm

Good Morning Adventure Readers,
I know it has been a long time since I have actually posted a good/full blog but I needed a week to digest what my life was after I had just completed my FIRST HALF MARATHON.

This was quit the feat to accomplish. I had just ran 13.1 miles, but now what? I needed a new goal…something new to run towards and not against!

So here I am a week after one of the best moments in my life….I had my family and friends all Turning New Leavesgathered around for this big event, and boy was it amazing! As I reflect back on June 5th, 2011 I can’t help but be thankful to all the supporters that have embraced me and my goals. The love that was there with me while I was running alone is undiscribable.

With all this reflecting I have some new “leaves” that I am going to turn starting today! I call them “leaves” because I am going to leave them behind me forever or make a new start in some aspects of my life. Super excited about all of them!

LEAF #1:
Now what? I have a plan of action for getting to my ULTIMATE GOAL of running the FULL ROCK ‘N’ ROLL MARATHON on June 4th, 2012. I plan on running at least 2/3 more Half Marathons until the New BIG Day! I just have to figure out which ones I want to run 🙂 So now I am going to step up and try some new training techniques as well as again begin to enjoy running. Now that I know I can run that far…I can start working on my time. The stats said I ran at about a 13min mile. So now I am going to get a little faster in hopes to get down to a 11min mile.

LEAF #2:
Today marks the day that I am going to start my new and improved diet/lifestyle change. It is not a weight loose diet, but I am hoping that with me computing all that I eat and making sure that I am eating all that I need to fuel my body I may loose a little extra baggage. I want to run more efficient so if I give my body what it wants to sustain its self, I may lose someBotanical Gardens @ Balboa weight. If I do I only hope that I lose about 15-20lbs. That would bring me down to a perfect weight for my Full Marathon. I have to say that I am perfectly fine with being 140-145lbs right now. I love who I am and where my body is right now, so this is not because I am unhappy with how I look. This is for my health and nothing else. OH! And I will still stay completely Gluten-Free and without Alli or any other helpers as I have used before.

I am sure there will be more “Leaves” later but those are the ones that I plan on letting the wind take them away and allow for some new buds to grow.

I feel like getting my new Hermes Wings Tattoos has allowed me to reach heights that I never expected. They are the wings that will carry me through my hard times and the ones that I have earned through overcoming all of my obstacles throughout my life. Hermes is the messenger to the Humans from the Greek Gods as well as a guide to the Underworld. “He is also the patron of boundaries and of the travelers who cross them, of shepherds and cowherds, of the cunning of thieves, of orators and wit, of literature and poets, of athletics and sports, of weights and measures, of invention, and of commerce in general. His symbols include the tortoise (which is my favorite animal), the rooster, the winged sandals, the winged hat, and the caduceus.”-wikipedia. All my life I have been told that I am a great messenger with the ability to show a different understanding of ideas that were once hard to comprehend. For these reasons I believe my new wings will help me with what I know best.

As many of us go through life wondering around looking for something to do, others get out of bed and change the world that allow the wonderers to wonder. Without a good nights sleep the chargers wouldn’t be where they are. So you see we all start from the same bed, it is your desicion what direction you go in. Think about….

Hey there Adventure Readers,

I know I am have been really really…ok really slacking on updating this but like the post before said…it has been a whirlwind adventure. I am in the process of writing a draft right now. It is kinda long and I have finally all the pictures uploaded on my computer. I had to go to some family and friends houses to get all the pictures. I still do have more to get (they are being sent) from the official race photographer. They have me going across the finish line!!!!

Anyways I wanted to share  my new ink that I received from an amazing Artist at Vivid Tattoo, here in San Diego. I will put links to all of these and much much more! I just wanted to say that I am in love with my new tattoos. It was as if Brenden took my dream and inked in on me. They are beautiful!
